Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using the native canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.

What quality setting should I use?

Auto-quality (the default) picks a sensible level based on your image's format and size. For photos, 80-90% is usually visually lossless. Below 70% starts showing visible artifacts on most images.

Why can't I compress a PNG with the quality slider?

PNG is a lossless format, the quality parameter doesn't apply the way it does for JPEG/WebP. If you need smaller file sizes with quality control, convert to WebP first using our Image Converter.

How much smaller will my image get?

It depends heavily on the source, an already-compressed image won't shrink much further. Uncompressed exports from cameras or design tools often shrink 60-80% with no visible quality loss.
