What Core Web Vitals mean for your ranking
Frequently asked questions
Does page speed affect SEO rankings?
Yes. Google uses Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP) as ranking signals since 2021. Pages with poor CWV scores are at a disadvantage vs. equivalent content on faster pages.
What's a good PageSpeed score?
90–100 is good, 50–89 needs improvement, 0–49 is poor. Aim for 90+ on desktop and 70+ on mobile. Mobile is harder due to slower connections and devices.
Why is my mobile score so much lower?
Mobile scores are assessed on a simulated 4G connection with a mid-tier device. Large images, render-blocking scripts, and unoptimised fonts hit mobile much harder than desktop.
How do I fix a slow LCP?
Preload your hero image, use a CDN, switch to WebP format, and ensure your server response time (TTFB) is under 200ms. LCP is almost always caused by large images or slow servers.
